Christina Peterek for one Year in the Diocese of Kumbo.

The 19 year old high school graduate, Christina Peterek has taken the bold step to come and spend one year in the diocese of Kumbo. Her visit is in the context of the long relationship between the diocese of Limburg and Kumbo. After Ephriam Bam and Makelia Ngi made the one year youth exchange programme in the diocese of Limburg, there was a need for a young person from Limburg to come over to continue this programme. Christina who got to Kumbo later in the after of Thursday 2nd August 2004, will be here until August 2005. During her stay, she will work on the diocesan youth team. Other possibilities will be made available for her. For example she will be given the chance to work in the Printing and Communication Centre for a couple of weeks, and to visit partner parishes etc.

Talking to Christina on how it happened that she decided to come to Cameroon, she indicated that as a child, she was in Bokinafaso, where her parents worked for close to three years. They told her good stories about the continent and the people. She loved the beautiful pictures the parents brought back from Africa. These she said, were her very first notable motivation to have the zeal to visit Africa. She went to the Parish Priest of St. Joseph?s parish in Frankfurt to find out if there was a possibility to go for one year in any African country. Her parish priest connected her with the Mr. Winfried Montz of the partnership desk of Limburg.

Christina already noticed the warmth of the people of Kumbo when she met Fr. Daniel Ache, the diocesan partnership coordinator for Kumbo at the airport in Douala. Douala for her was a bit too hot. She is impressed by the topography and the weather of Kumbo.

She is from a family of four; her father, mother and a 16 year old sister. She loves meeting people. After her year in Kumbo, she intends to study. She hopes that in the course of this year, she will be able to make a decision on what to study.

CNL wishes her a fruitful stay in the diocese of Kumbo.
